~ Promises ~

I never promised you a castle,
Or dragons for you to slay.
I didn't promise you a princess,
Or damsels for you to carry away.

I didn't say that every battle
That you fought would be won;
For as soon as a battle's over,
Another battle has begun!

I cannot give you a mighty kingdom
Over which you may reign;
Or just a small cottage
Where you could rule as king.

But I promised that if you walked
With God, each and every day,
And you held fast to His hand
Every step along the way:

That if you accepted Jesus
As your Savior and your Lord;
And promised that you'd live each day
According to His unchanging Word:

One day, you'd live as royalty,
His inheritance you would share.
That robes of purest white are yours,
And upon your head you'd wear,

A crown of purest hammered gold
With precious jewels beset.
And rewards of greatest majesty
You will surely get.

But the greatest blessing you'll receive
To your soul will surely come,
When He smiles and gently says to you,
"A job well done, my son!"
